CANCELLED: Edmonton Flamenco Festival Amid COVID 19 Complications
The 4th annual Edmonton Flamenco Festival regretfully has cancelled their performance this Friday, March 13th at the Winspear Centre as well as all workshops to be held as part of the festival.
Every year the Edmonton Flamenco Festival brings the world’s best of Flamenco dance and music to a Winspear audience followed by workshops in song, dance and guitar for the community. This year, it intended to bring Flamenco star El Oruco José Manuel Ramos and four other internationally celebrated artists, however, international travel and medical insurance issues in the wake of the COVID-19 virus, is forcing the cancellation of the festival in its entirety.
“This is a heartbreaking turn of events,” says Jane Ogilvie, the artistic director of the Edmonton Flamenco Festival. “We have been working for a solid year to bring this calibre of talent to an audience that has just continued to grow every year. We’ve exhausted all options but today we have been forced to cancel the show and workshops. This global event outside our control has been emotionally and financially devastating for our festival. Our performers are equally sad to not be able to perform in Edmonton this week. We want to thank all our supporters of our festival over the past four years. ”
The Winspear box office will be processing full refunds back to all ticket holders through the original methods of payment. The Winspear Box Office will be doing outbound calls to all patrons to let them know of the cancellation and to begin processing refunds. If patrons have any questions or concerns, please call the box office at 780 428-1414.
Workshop registrants will be issued full refunds this week through original methods of payment. The Festival will be contacting everyone by email to let them know of the cancellation. If workshop registrants have any questions or concerns, please contact the festival at workshops@edmontonflamencofestival.com
The Edmonton Flamenco Festival has been an annual event committed to raising awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Flamenco for the greater Edmonton community.
We’d like to acknowledge and thank the Canada Council for the Arts, the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton for their support this year.
